About Summer Camp
Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles is a day camp where girls and gender-expansive youth ages 8-17 explore the joys and challenges of collaborative music-making while guided by inspirational mentors.
Go here to learn about Music Video Program.
In one week, campers take lessons on an instrument, form bands, and write an original song. On Saturday, each band will share their song at the Showcase. Campers will also get to design and make their own band t-shirt, and participate in other fun and engaging activities.
Prior musical experience is not required. All instruments and equipment are provided.
Activities will take place outdoors and indoors.
Campers must bring their own lunch each day. We will provide an afternoon snack. Bring your own water to help stay hydrated throughout the day.
We do not provide transportation. If you are interested in carpooling, we can connect you with other camper families.
Camper, staff, and community safety is a top priority. We strongly recommend that all campers and volunteers are up to date with the most recent COVID-19 and other commonly available vaccines prior to starting camp.
We will be keeping an eye on public health conditions and may have additional safety measures if needed.
Masks will be available at camp for anyone who would like to use one.
Tuition & Tuition Assistance
Tuition is $500 per camper for the week of camp. Tuition assistance is available to those in need and who live in the Los Angeles area. We offer tuition on a sliding scale so that youth from all financial backgrounds have the opportunity to attend camp. Tuition is not considered a donation.
Tuition assistance is available on a need basis to campers who live in the Los Angeles area.
For those requesting assistance, tuition is based on a sliding scale between $25 – $500. Tuition assistance typically goes to families that are low-income, have many dependents, or are facing other financial hardships. We do not grant tuition assistance because of a camper being enrolled in multiple summer camps, private school tuition or other situations involving elective activities.
We realize that families have different abilities to pay. It’s part of our mission to make summer camp accessible regardless of financial situation. Applying for tuition assistance will neither increase nor decrease the chances of acceptance.
The tuition assistance application is within the main application. The link to the main application is at the bottom of this page.
In the application you will be asked the following questions:
- How much can you pay towards your child’s tuition?
- What is your household annual income?
- How many dependents are in your family?
- Are you a single income family?
- Does the child receive child support?
- Does the child receive free or reduced-priced meals?

We will email you to let you know if you got into camp and send you a link to pay tuition.

This camp is not a talent contest. Prior musical experience is not required. Preference is given to Los Angeles County residents.
We review applications in the order they are received. We look for an even distribution of age, instrument choice, and experience level, so that we can form compatible bands. We hope we won’t have to turn anyone away, but it could happen if we receive too many applications from campers of the same age.
Instrument Assignment
Campers are assigned one instrument to focus on for the week. They take daily lessons in a small group class. Instruments choices are: guitar, bass, keys, drums, and vocals.
On the application, campers rank the instrument choices. We try to give everyone their first choice. Some campers will get their second or third choice. Your flexibility and openness helps us put together compatible bands.
Campers cannot change instruments once their instrument has been assigned.
Campers will be notified of their instrument assignment when they receive their acceptance email.
All instruments are provided. Campers are allowed to bring their own guitar or bass if they want to. We do not accept liability for personal instruments.
Band Formation
Bands are formed by staff before camp starts. You will find out who you’re in a band with on day one of camp.
You can request who you’d like to be in a band with in your application. We can’t promise that your request will be granted. Meeting new people and making new friends are some of the best parts of camp.
Band formation depends on many factors. We look very carefully at all aspects of each application and do our best to put together compatible bands.
Our Volunteers
Our volunteer mentors are thoughtfully selected and screened through an online application, interview, and Live Scan fingerprinting. They are an incredible bunch and we hope you get to know some of them this summer.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national and/or ethnic origin, age, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, or gender identity/expression in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, financial aid, and other Camp-related policies and programs, as well as volunteer and employment-related policies and activities.
Prepare Your Answers
Camper input is a very important part of the application. Campers should prepare their answers in advance. Here are the questions we need to hear the camper’s voice on:
Campers please respond in your own words. Answer all questions, at least 3-5 sentences per question. Younger campers or anyone with special needs may get help from a family member or friend.
- Why do you want to come to this camp?
- Who is someone you look up to and why?
- What would you do to make the world a better place?
We will assemble bands based on age, experience, musical interests, and Express Yourself answers. Your answers will not affect your chance of being accepted. Experience is not necessary!
- Who are some of your favorite musicians?
- What’s your favorite song right now?
- What experience do you have (if any) playing an instrument? Name instrument(s) and how long you have been playing.
- What are your interests and hobbies besides music?
- Do you take music lessons?
- Are you musically self-taught?
- Do you like to sing?
- Do you play in a band outside of camp?
- Have you written original music and/or lyrics?
- Can you read music?
You will be asked to rank your choice of instruments: electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, keys, vocals.
